P1F2A: THE HUGH COFFEY GROUP:

This group consists of descendants of Hugh Coffey, who is believed to have arrived in America in the early 1700’s. NOTE: The reader should be aware there are TWO complementary DNA Projects for Hugh: Both are interested in new participants who are, or think they may be, descendants of Hugh.

Fred Coffey is the contact for any comments or questions on yDNA. Contact FredCoffey@AOL.com

Terri Stern is the contact for atDNA (autosomal DNA). Contact HughCoffeyProject@gmail.com .

More details about this project background can be found at:

Regarding the y-DNA Project, so far we have only tested four people who are connected to Hugh. They match each other, and are genetically distinct from all other Coffey groups.

The CCC Newsletters have more than 30 years of assorted notes about Hugh and his line. However in Issue #116, March 2010, THREE of the DNA tested men wrote to contribute information. Have a look:

CCC Newsletter, Hugh Coffey Notes. Articles start on pages 9, 13 and 16.

A recent addition to this group is Mr. Edward Preston WILSON II. His ancestry was, until recently, unknown any farther back than his grandfather. His DNA was first tested several years ago, but it is only now realized there is a SOLID Hugh Coffey Group connection:

His y-DNA test shows solid connection to this Hugh Group, matching the reference on 109 out of 111 markers. But that type of test only reveals the roughest estimate of the time to the MRCA (Most Recent Common Ancestor). But Richard Lee Coffey (see above) and Edward Preston Wilson also have Family Finder (autosomal) DNA tests, and that test indicates they are in the range of second to third cousins. That strongly suggests the family connection must be within the range of the dashed line in the above figure.
