Misc. Notes

His 1st marriage was to Judith Lawson on 9 Mar 1730 in Lancaster Co, VA; his 2nd marriage was to the widow Elizabeth Lawson Biscoe d/o Henry & Mary  (Kelly) Lawson and widow of Robert Biscoe on 19 Apr 1756.  Francis owned land in 1738 200 acres in Wicomico Parish on Nathellings Branch, VA. He witnessed the wills of William Bell in 1744, Christopher  Garlington in 1753, Wm Garlington Sullivan in 1761. He sued for debt  George Warrick, Joseph Ingram, Wm. Garlington Moses Lunsford (for counter  security on Estate of Thomas Hammond dec'd. Lunsford refused and Francis  took over the Orphan's Estate.) Francis was sued by Edward Kerr and George  Kerr.

 

Francis was guardian to Ezekiel Cammell orphan of Wm who died 1743.  Francis' will was in 5 Nov 1762 probated in 13 Dec 1762. The two pages  of inventory on Francis' will contained several interesting items: 4  negroes, 10 delph plates, a case of pistols, holsters, sword & bayonet, a  still tub and worm, 1,300 gallon casks, 7 tare tubs, 2 bushels peas, some  rotten corn, 100 gallon syder?, a pair of silver shoe buckles, a neck  buckle & studs, a pair of temple spectacles, the crop of tobacco  unfinished & brandy, a canoe, a sundial, etc.

 

Will of Francis Timberlake:

"In the name of God, Amen, I, Francis Timberlake of the Co. of Northumberland being in perfect sense and memory of mind Pras'd be God, but Calling to mind the uncertainty of this my last will and testament in manner and form following:

 

"I give and bequeath my Soule to Almighty God that gave it to me in full and certain hopes of pardon and Remission for all my sins in and through the merits of my Dear Lord and Blessed Savior Jesus Christ, and my body to the earth to be buried at the Discretion of my Executors hereafter named and for what wordly goods it hath pleased God to bless me with.

 

"I give as followeth vix:

 

"Item: I give unto my son Ephaphroditus Timberlake the horse bridle and saddle which he has already, and the bed and furniture that he lies on to him and his heirs.

 

"Item: I give unto my daughter Mary Timberlake the mare called Spot and a side saddle and bridle and the bed and furniture that she lies on to her and her heirs.

 

"Item: Its my will that what I have before given to my children when they were married should not be brought into my estate to be appraised.

 

"Item: It is my will that my executors shall sell all my land and appurtinances for the best price that can be got for current money and the money arising from such sale be equally divided amongst my five children viz: Richard, Eppa and Mary Timberlake and my daughters Elizabeth Reed and Sarah Hathaway all my estate not before given to be equally divided between my said children and their heirs:

 

"Item: Lastly I appoint my son Richard Timberlake and my friend George Ball executors of this my last will and testament revoking all former wills by me made as witness my hand and seal the 5th of November, 1762.
