In the 1856 and 1860 census, there are two John McMains, one in Mahaska County, and one in Davis County. We want the one in Davis County, who in 1856 was lifing with his sister Jane Barnes, and in 1860 was living with his father Robert McMains. HE would have been born in about 1824. In the 1860 census he is marked as “Insane”.
