MEMO:
“Gallagher” and “Gill” are very common Irish names. That is also true of those coupled with first names “William” and “Catherine/Katherine/Kate/Katie/Cath”. This makes the search difficult for years prior to their marriage. When looking for census or immigration records there are many candidates that “sort of” fit!

WILLIAM’S BIRTH ABOUT 1882:
In his 1905 marriage (below) William indicates birth about 1882 in New Brunswick, Canada, to parents Patrick Gallagher and Mary Massett. Birth records for children also show St. John, New Brunswick birth. In the 1910 census, he indiates both he and his parents were born in Canada.

1905 MARRIAGE RECORD, TOWN OF BROOKLINE:
William P Gallagher, age 23, and Catherine Gill, age 24, were married 19 Feb 1905. William was a waiter who lived in Boston and was born in New Brunswick. His parents were Patrick Gallagher and Mary Massett. Catherine was a domestic servant from Brookline, born in Ireland, with parents James Gill and Annie Kelly. They were married by Rev. Thomas F McManus, Catholic Priest at St. Lawrence’s church at 774 Boylston St., Brookline. (MEMO: The cornerstone of this church was laid 6 Sep 1896, and McManus was appointed first rector. A diligent researcher might contact to church to see if they have additional relevant records?)

1905 BIRTH OF SON JAMES ALPHONSUS:
Found James’ birth record for 28 Jul 1905. Family lives at 63 Terrace St., Boston.

1907 BIRTH OF DAUGHTER MARY CATHERINE:
Found Mary’s birth record for 23 Jun 1907. Family lives at 5 Smith St., Boston.

1909 BIRTH OF SON JOSEPH:
Found his birth record for 20 Mar 1909. Family lives at 4 Carnes Place, Boston.

1910 CENSUS, BOSTON, SUFFOLK, MA: William is age 28, born in Canada (as were his parents), and immigrated in 1900. William works as a Waiter in a Hotel. Catherine is age 29, born in Ireland (as were her parents) and immigrated in 1898. They have been married 6 years, have had 3 children, all still living. Children are James (age 5), Mary (age 3), and Joseph (age 13 months). NOTE: Joseph is missing from 1920 census, must have died young?

1910 BIRTH OF DAUGHTER ANNA:
The 1920 and 1930 census show a daughter Anna was born about this time.

1911 BIRTH OF DAUGHTER ELIZABETH:
Birth recorded for 9 Dec 1911.

DEATH OF WILLIAM:
He is absent from the 1920 census, so must have died sometime between 1911 and 1920.
