John Bishop , Newbury, a carpenter, m. Oct 1647 Rebecca (Kent) Scullard, widow of Samuel Scullard and d/o Richard Kent of Newbury. John Bishop removed first to Nantucket, thence with other neighbors 1667 to found the town of Woodbridge, N.J., from which he was the first representative in the Assembly 1668; he was on Gov. Philip Carteret's council 1672. He d. 1684. His will does not mention wife, but does mention sons Jonathan, John, Noah and daughters Rebecca, Joanna and Ann, grandchild John Bishop, the natural son of John.
