Walter Johnson "Watt" Coffey and Rachel Dean were married. Rachel Dean, daughter of William A. Dean and Mattie Summerow, was born on 30 December 1899 in Avery Co., NC.34057 Rachel died on 15 September 1994 at the age of 94 at home in Hickory, Catawba Co., NC and was buried at Clark Cemetery in Pineola, Avery Co., NC on 18 September 1994.34058,34059

Rachel Dean Coffey

Rachel Deal Coffey, age 94, of Hickory, formerly of Newland, died Thursday (9-15-1994) at her residence.

A native of Avery County, she was a daughter of the late William A. and Mattie Summerow Dean. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Coffey was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Oscar Hampton and Walter Coffey. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Willie and Herman Hampton.

Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Winters of Hickory; 5 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Grandfather Chapel of the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, with her grandsons, Joseph and Glenn Winters officiating. Interment followed in the Clark Cemetery.

Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home of Newland was in charge of arrangements.
