Mr. Deward B. Coffey

Mr. Deward B. Coffey, age 84, of Route 8, Lenoir, the Globe community, died Friday morning, May 6, at his son's home in Vilas.

He was born May 14, 1909, in Blowing Rock, a son of the late Roby Columbus and Lester Pearl Elrod Coffey. He was a retired self-employed caretaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Blowing Rock. He was a former member of the Blowing Rock Ruritan [sic] Club.

Survivors include two sons, Burris Coffey and his wife, Evelyn, of Route 1, Vilas, and Bruce Coffey of Route 8, Lenoir; one grandson, David Wayne Coffey and his wife, Diane, and one granddaughter, Robyn Coffey, all of Boone; three brothers, Dallas Coffey of Cornwall, New York, Omer Coffey of Blowing Rock and Dennis Coffey and his wife Dorothy, of Camden, South Carolina; one sistere, Ruby Young and her husband, Charlie, of Alachua, Florida. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Maude Mays Coffey, and one sister, Mrs. Helen Emory.

Services were Sunday afternoon at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating were Rev. Don Rogers and Rec. William R. Rogers. Interment followed in the White Springs Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Watauga County, Route 5, Box 199, Boone, North Carolina 28607.

Deward Belmont Coffey and Maude Eliza Mays were married on 27 September 1930 in North Carolina. Maude Eliza Mays, daughter of William Oliver Mays and Alice Cordelia Lewis, was born on 17 November 1909 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC.35930 Maude died on 29 September 1978 at the age of 68 in Watauga Co., NC and was buried at White Springs Cemetery in Blowing Rock, Watauga Co., NC.35931,35932,35933

Mr. Deward Burris Coffey, 62, of 401 Linville Creek Road, Vilas, died Sunday night, August 22, 2004, at Watauga Medical Center.

He was born July 21, 1942, in Boone, Watauga County, to the late Deward Belmont and Maude Mays Coffey.

Mr. Coffey was a 1960 graduate of Blowing Rock High School and earned a degree as an auto body technician from Wilkes Community College.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam Era and a machinist at the former Vermont American Corporation.

He retired from the Grounds Maintenance Department at Appalachian State University.

He was a member of Brushy Fork Baptist Church and attended High Country United Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Evelyn Wilson Coffey; one son, David Wayne Coffey and wife, Diane, of Boone; one granddaughter, Kelly Coffey of Lenoir; and one niece, Robyn Coffey, of Boone.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Bruce Coffey.

A memorial service will be conducted today (Wednesday) at 5 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Shelly Wilson and the Rev. Melanie Childers officiating.

The family will receive friends this afternoon from 4-5 p.m., at the funeral home, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Watauga County, 136 Furman Road, Boone, N.C. 28607 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Mr. Douglas Bruce Coffey, age 51, of 7790 Globe Road, Lenoir, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at his home.

He was born February 5, 1952, in Blowing Rock, Watauga County, to the late Deward and Maude Mays Coffey. Mr. Coffey was a graduate of Watauga High School and an automotive technician for High Country Honda. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Blowing Rock and a volunteer with both the Blowing Rock and Collettsville fire departments.

Survivors include a daughter, Robyn Coffey and a grandson, Zachary Tyler Cook, both of Boone; one brother, Burris Coffey and wife, Evelyn, of Vilas; one nephew, David Wayne Coffey and wife, Diane and one great-niece, Kelly Coffey, all of Boone.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o?clock at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Shelly Wilson.

Burial followed in the White Springs Cemetary in Blowing Rock.
