James Coffey

James Coffey, 69, of 2315 Evans St., Lenoir, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 1996, at the residence.

He was born Aug. 5, 1926, in Caldwell County to the late James N. and Nealie Triplett Coffey. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorathy [sic] Pauline Scott Coffey, six brothers and one sister.

Coffey was retired from Lenoir Mirror, where he was employed for 40 years. He was a member of Closer Walk Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include one son, James Edward "Jimmy" Coffey of Lenoir; two brothers, Clint Coffey of Morganton and Dan Coffey of Lenoir; six sisters, Dorathy [sic] Jolly, Mavis Taylor, Virgie Price, Carrie Winebarger and Evelyn Coffey of Lenoir and Winnie Foley of Moravian Falls; and one grandchild.

The funeral is Friday at Pendry's Lenoir Chapel at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Gurney Robins and Edd Warren officiating. Burial will be in Belleview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Doug Pope, Johnathan Smith, Ray Price, Jerry Price, Dale Price and Junior Price.

Betty Jean Bryant Coffey, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Brockford Inn, in Granite Falls, NC.

Mrs. Coffey was born on September 11, 1936, in Caldwell Co.to the late Bud Bryant and Bertha Green Bryant. She was of the Baptist faith and worked as a weaver for Rospatch/Paxar before retirement.
Mrs. Coffey was a wonderful wife, mother, and Nanny who will be dearly missed. Her family wishes to thank her co-workers who were like family to her, for all the love and companionship they showed her.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Wilson Coffey; a sister, Sue Adams; a brother, Louis Bryant; and a son, James “Willie” Coffey.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her sons, Donald Coffey and wife Willa Dee of Lenoir, David Coffey and wife Joann of Taylorsville, Buddy Coffey and wife Brenda of Lenoir, and Michael Coffey and wife Angie of Hickory; a daughter, Linda Lee and husband Tony of Morganton; a brother, Ralph Bryant and wife Lantha of Baton; a sister, Ruby Hammond of Lenoir; nineteen grandchildren; and thirty-one great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at 3:00 PM at Greer-McEleen Funeral Home conducted by Reverend Steve Hedgecock. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

James Wilson Coffey Jr.: Man killed in logging accident

A man was killed in a logging accident Monday morning deep in the woods off Setzers Creek Road north of Lenoir.

James Wilson Coffey Jr., 51, of Pisgah Church Road west of Lenoir died after he was struck by a falling tree about 10 a.m., the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office said in a press release. He was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

The accident happened about a half mile into the woods behind 2753 Setzers Creek Road, where a crew from Woods Logging of Lenoir was working.

A worker who declined to give his name said a tree that had been "notched" but was still standing broke off and fell on a man working nearby.

"(Another worker) was yelling at him to get away, but he didn't hear him," he said.

No other information was available Monday.

James Wilson Coffey, Jr. “Willie”, age 51, passed away due to an accident on Monday, July 3, 2017. He was born in Caldwell County on July 20, 1965 to the Betty Jean Bryant Coffey and the late James Wilson Coffey.

Willie was a hard- working man who loved to play pool. He was dearly loved by his family and friends.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Heather Coffey; granddaughter, Hannah Danielle Solis Coffey; brothers, Donald Coffey and wife, Willa Dee; David Coffey and wife, JoAnne of Taylorsville; Buddy Coffey and wife, Brenda; Michael Coffey and wife, Denise; sister, Linda Helms of Hudson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Willie’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Charles McLean officiating. Burial will be at Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. prior to the service.
