He registered for the WWI draft on 5 June 1917 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC.18251 Thomas died of a cardiovascular accident on 5 March 1965 at the age of 76 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir, Lower Creek Twp., Caldwell Co., NC and was buried at Harpers Chapel Cemetery in Patterson, Caldwell Co., NC on 7 March 1965.18252

George Robbins, Sr.

George Welborn Robbins, Sr., 80, of Emerald Place, SW, Lenoir, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 17, 1924 in Caldwell County to the late Thomas "Hamp" Hamilton Robbins, Sr. and Jennie Welborn Robbins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gwedolyn Robbins Clark.

Mr. Robbins was retired from A-1 Pest Control and was a member of Lenoir Community Church. He was retired after serving 23 years with the U.S. Army and also served in the Korean Conflict. He was the former president of the Caldwell County Historical Society and helped in the creation of the Caldwell County Historical Museum. He was also involved in the creation of the walking park adjacent to the museum.

Survivors include his wife, Imogene C. Robbins of the home; George W. Robbins, Jr. of Lenoir and Steven Robbins and wife Terri of Banner Elk; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn R. and Leonard Burns of Atlanta, Ga., Suzanna R. and Austin Spruill of Virginia and Lynne R. and David Doyle of Arizona; two brothers, Thomas Hamilton "Hamp" Robbins, Jr. of Virginia and Robert Joseph Robbins of Lenoir and 11 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004 at noon at Lenoir Community Church conducted by the Rev. Robert N. Parmley and Rev. Timothy W. Hawkins.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
