He was born Aug. 19, 1912 in Caldwell County to the late William and Bessie Townsend Coffey. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Townsend Coffey; and one sister, Lula Church. Mr. Coffey was a retired farmer and rock mason. Survivors include one son, Jimmy Coffey of Boone; three sisters, Nancy Coffey of Boone, Ruth Coffey of Blowing Rock and Cora Lee Greer of Lenoir; and four brothers, Tom Coffey of Laytown, Troy Coffey, John Coffey and Jack Coffey, all of Boone. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at White Springs Cemetery in Watauga County. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at Hampton Funeral Service in Boone.
