Coffey, Retired Merchant, Dies

Lenoir, Feb. 4 - Robert E. Coffey, 58, retired postmaster and merchant of Lenoir, died Mondayin a local hospital after a long illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Globe Baptist Church by the Rev. Ralen Day and the Rev. Luther Haad. Burial will be in Carey's [sic] Flat Cemetery.

Robert Coffey Taken By Death

Robert E. Coffey, 58-year-old retired postmaster and merchant of 410 Sunset Drive, died Monday at 4:50 p.m. in a local hospital after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Globe baptist Church with Rev. Ralen Day and Rev. Luther Haas officiating. Burial will be in Cares Flat Cemetery.

The body was moved from Greer Funeral Home to the residence today at 5 p.m.

Born Aug. 20, 1905 in Caldwell County, he was a son of the late Gus F. and Betty Beard Coffey.

Coffey served as postmaster at Globe for 18 years and at Edgemont for 10 years.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Cleola Crisp Coffey; a daughter, Mrs. Christine Craig of Blowing Rock; two sons, Robert T. Coffey of the home, Sgt. George F. Coffey of the U.S. Army stationed in Munich, Germany.

Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Cena Henderson of Montezuma, Mrs. Maude Pyatte of Hildebran, Mrs. Bonnie Rash of Crossnore; four brothers, Spencer and Benson Coffey, both of Gragg, Archie Coffey of Edgemont, Blaine Coffey of San Antonio, Tex.; a half-brother, Clarence Gragg of Jonas Ridge; and six grandchildren.

Crisp, daughter of Joseph Columbus Crisp and Bessie Victoria Hollar, was born on 5 June 1912 in Avery Co., NC. She lived with her parents in Wilson Creek Twp., Avery Co., NC on 19 January 1920. Cleola died on 15 June 1987 at the age of 75 in Avery Co., NC and was buried at Cary Flat Cemetery in Gragg, Avery Co., NC.35761,35762
