Rev. Pinckney Philyar

Lenoir, June 27.-Rev. Pinckney David Philyaw, 65, of Lenoir, route 7, died Sunday in a Winston-Salem hospital following an illness of about five weeks. Funeral was held at his home Tuesday with burial in the family plot near the home. He was born in Caldwell county, a son of the late Gideon and Martha Teague Philyaw. He spent his life in upper Caldwell county and was employed as a timber cutter. He was a member of Green Valley Baptist church and conducted services at a number of churches in his community. Rev. Mr. Philyaw is survived by his wife, the former Ila Jane Coffey; three daughters, Mrs. Jessie Tickle, Virginia, Mrs. Ila Coffey, route 8, Lenoir, and Miss Millie Philyaw, of the home; and four sons, David, James, Floyd and Herman Philyaw, all of Globe section; three brothers, Columbus Philyaw, Leonard Philyaw and Roy Philyaw; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Penley, Mrs. Dossie Penley and Mrs. Maggie Coffey, all of the Globe section, 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
