Mrs. Cook was born in Caldwell County to the late Joel Partee Coffey and Pearl Tolbert Coffey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Conley Smith Cook; her son, Conley Smith Cook Jr.; four brothers, Hardy, Dallas, Milt and Junior Coffey and a sister, Vergie Sumlin Carpenter. She was raised by Wes and Allie Coffey, her aunt and uncle, after her parents died at an early age. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Mrs. Cook always stated she loved "all her nieces and nephews." She referred to several of them as her "young-uns." After the loss of her husband, special caregivers were: Archie Coffey, Lil Hendricks and Patricia Minton. During her life, she enjoyed her travels, especially to Canada and Niagara Falls, with her husband, family and friends. Survivors include a sister, Gertie Killian of Lenoir and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 from 2 until 3 p.m. at Pendry's Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held in Pendry's Chapel Friday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Clyde Coffey and the Rev. Rev. Billy Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Bethany Baptist Church. Serving as pallbearers will be Roy Coffey, Charles Coffey, Ira Sumlin, Robert Killian, Nathan Minton and Junior Goins. The family requests that memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir or to Bethany Baptist Church, c/o Grady Harley Greene, 6745 Richland Road, Lenoir, NC 28645.
