Radford C. Gragg

Radford Calton Gragg, 65, of Route 10, Lenoir, died Thursday at Caldwell Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

Born Dec. 18, 1917 in Caldwell County, Mr. Gragg was a son of the late William and Mary Coffey Gragg.

Mr. Gragg was owner of Gragg's Nursery and a landscaper.

Survivors include the wife, Katie Woodie Gragg of the home; two sons, Malcolm Gragg of Hildebran, R. Leroy Gragg of Lenoir; a foster son, Greg Dinnerstein of Lenoir; four daughters, Mrs. mark (Lori) Starin, Edna Fincher, Fran Bell, all of Lenoir, Mrs. George (Judy) Jones of Mount Airy; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Gragg or Louisville, Ohio, Glen Gragg of Wilkesboro; and four sisters, Violet Jordan of Huntersville, Ivalee Oakes of Baltimore, Md., Beverly Ollis of Newland, and Flossie Reaser of Pasadena, Md.

Mr. Gragg was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Albert Gragg; and a sister, Mildred Luttmann.

The family will be at the Stain residence, 1822 Westminster Circle, British Woods.

Memorials may be made to the Heart Fund or Northwestern Dialysis Clinic.

Mrs. Katie Elisabeth Woody Gragg of Lenoir passed into the hands of the Lord on Monday, March 14, 2011. She was born December 1, 1921 in Caldwell County, NC to the late John Logan and Birdie Dellinger Woody. She and her husband, the late Radford C. Gragg, owned and operated the Radford C. Gragg Nursery on Collettsville Road for many years.

Surviving are two sons, Malcolm C. Gragg (Mickey B.) of Connelly Springs, and Radford Leroy Gragg of Lenoir; four daughters, Edna G. Hendrickson (Larry) of Salisbury, Frances G. Bell of Granite Falls, Judy G. Jones (George) of Mount Airy, Lori G. Lackey of Bowie, MD; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She loved all her nieces and nephews; and her extended family, Crystal Haas and Robert and Megan Williams.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Gregory Allan Dinerstein; one brother Clyde T. Woody; two sisters, Ethelene W. Coffey and Gladys W. Pitts.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service.

The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir.
