Roy Penney

Mr. Roy L. "Speck" Penney, 75, of Lenoir, died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at Camelot Manor Nursing Care.

He was born April 10, 1930, in Letcher County, Ky., to the late Guy Raymond and Mary Belle Crawford Penney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Billie Joyce Smith Penney Hayes, and a second wife, Elouise Coffey Penney; an infant daughter, Kimberly Lucille Penney; one brother, Rudell Penney; and three sisters, Goldie Hart, Nina Johnson and Rebecca Foster.

Mr. Penney was an employee of the furniture industry for many years and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Free Spirit Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles L. and Mindy Penney of Acworth, Ga., and Steve and Toni Penny of Granite Falls; four step-sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Ruby Woodruff of Star, Dale Woodruff and his companion, Vetty of Lenoir, Daniel and Lynn Coffey of Lenoir, and Darrell and Rachel Coffey of Granite Falls; two step-daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Steve Borders of Lenoir, and Judy and Ernest Messer of Lenoir; and a number of grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

A Service of Remembrance will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Calvin Hargett. Interment with military honors will follow at Hibriten Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
