Sidney Lee Coffey

Hickory, Jan. 30 - Sidney Lee Coffey, 72, of Route 2, Granite Falls, died today in Hickory hospital. He was a native of Caldwell County, a retired farmer and a veteran of World War I.

Survivors: his wife; two daughters, Miss Muriel Coffey of the home and Miss Vera Coffey of Milwaukee, Wis.; two sons, Harley Coffey of Valdese and Hubert Coffey of Hickory; and two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Blankenship of Taylorsville and Mrs. Sarah Flowers of Monroe.

Sidney Lee Coffey and Hattie Pearl Starnes were married on 8 April 1925 in Taylorsville, Alexander Co., NC.33705 They33705 lived with his parents in Lovelady Twp., Caldwell Co., NC on 8 April 1930. Hattie Pearl Starnes was born on 9 February 1899 in Alexander Co., NC. Hattie died on 4 July 1998 at the age of 99 in Catawba Co., NC and was buried at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, Catawba Co., NC.33706

Muriel Aline Coffey, 83, of Hickory, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2011 at Palliative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley.

Born November 21, 1927 in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late Sidney Lee Coffey and Hettie Starnes Coffey.

She was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Granite Falls.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Hubert Coffey and Harley E. Coffey.

She is survived by her sister, Vera M. Coffey of Hickory, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 in the chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Marietta Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2 – 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Vera Mae Coffey was born on 5 April 1933 in Alexander Co., NC. Vera died in Newton, Catawba Co., NC on 4 September 2017 and her burial place is unknown to me.

HICKORY Vera Mae Coffey, 84, of Hickory, passed away Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton. Miss Coffey was born April 5, 1933, in Alexander County, to the late Sidney Lee Coffey and Hettie Starnes Coffey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Hubert Conrad Coffey and Harley Edgar Coffey, and one sister, Muriel Aline Coffey. She was a member of the National Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C., was previously a professor at California Institute of Technology, and also worked for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., as a management analyst.
