Jesse L. Coffey

Lenoir, N.C. - Jesse Logan Coffey, age 56, of Lenoir, died at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Blackwelder Hospital after suffering a heart attack Monday in his home.

He had been a resident of Lenoir for the past 10 years.

He was a member of the Baptist Church, and was formerly of Big Stone Gap. He was a machinist for the Broyhill Furniture Co.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jane Townsend Coffey, Lenoir; six sons, Robert Coffey, Indianapolis, Ind., James Coffey, Troy Coffey, Paul Coffey, Roy Coffey, George Coffey, all of Lenoir; two daughters Mrs. James (Nellie) Walsh and Mrs. Clyde (Gladys) Estes, both of Lenoir; mother, Mrs. Bertie N. Coffey, Lenoir, two brothers, Troy Coffey and George Coffey, both of Lenoir; two sisters, Mrs. Lee Reece, Lenoir and Mrs. Jessie Harmon, Jacksonville, Fla.; 15 grandchildren.

Jesse Logan Coffey and Emma Jane "Jane" Townsend were married on 31 October 1938 in Wise Co., VA.³⁵⁵⁵⁶ They^{³⁵⁵⁵⁶} lived with her parents in Big Stone Gap, Wise Co., VA on 20 April 1940.³⁵⁵⁵⁷ Emma Jane "Jane" Townsend, daughter of Jacob Lewis Townsend and Margaret Gertrude Bennett, was born on 8 December 1921 in Big Stone Gap, Wise Co., VA. She lived with her parents in Big Stone Gap, Wise Co., VA on 12 April 1930. Emma died in Indiana on 18 November 1992 and was buried at Glencoe Cemetery in Big Stone Gap, Wise Co., VA in November 1992 .³⁵⁵⁵⁸

Robert died in Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN on 11 February 2016 and was buried at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN in February 2016 .³⁵⁵⁶⁰ Robert Benson Coffey, 74, of Indianapolis, passed away February 11, 2016. He was born in Big Stone Gap, VA the son of Jessee and Jane (Townsend) Coffey. He retired from Chrysler Corp. in 2005, where he was an electrician. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Troy and Paul Coffey. Robert is survived by his wife of more than 52 years, Wilma (Browning) Coffey; his children, Robert Coffey, Jr. (Sherri), Teresa Bandy (Raymond), Donald Coffey (Lynn), Kimberly Coffey, Krystle Asa (Evan) and Tressie Coffey; brothers, George Coffey (Teresa), James Coffey, and Roy Coffey; sisters, Nellie Coffey (Steve) and Gladys Estes; 2 sisters in law, Charlie and Brenda Coffey; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
