Waynesboro, Oct. 29 - A funeral service was held Tuesday at Valley View Mennonite Church for Eugene Bartley Coffey, 63, who died Sunday at his home, Route 1, Stuarts Draft. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hersey Lee Coffey, 69, died at 4 p.m. yesterday at her home near Stuarts Draft, after a long illness.

She was born Oct. 14, 1884, in Augusta County, daughter of the late Joshua and Alice Elizabeth Forbus Brooks. She was a member of Rankin Methodist Chapel.

Mrs. Coffey was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Bartley Coffey on Oct. 27, 1946. Survivors include three sons, Alfred, Elmer, and Phy all of Stuarts Draft; four daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Stinnett, Mrs. Guy England, Miss Minnie Coffey and Miss Hersey Ellen Coffey, all of Stuarts Draft; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Sandy Brooks and Carl Brooks, both of Stuarts Draft; four sisters, Mrs. Nellie McCray of Waynesboro, Mrs. Otho Humphreys of Stuarts Draft, Mrs. Floyd Young of West Virginia and Mrs. Levi Fitzgerald of Crozet.

The body will remain at Etter Funeral Home and be placed in the Valley View Mennonite Church near Stuarts Draft, tomorrow at 1 p.m. Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. by the Rev. E. B. White, assisted by the Rev. Jason Weaver, with interment in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be William Tillman, Harry Hailey, Lyle Hailey, Lawrence Dameron, Ollie Fretwell and Walter Pannell.

STUARTS DRAFT: Elmer Franklin Coffey, 56, of Route 2, Stuarts Draft was dead on arrival at Waynesboro Community Hospital at 8:18 p.m. Wednesday.

He was a member of Rankin Chapel United Methodist Church.

He was a retired employee of Waynesboro Nurseries, Inc.

Born in Stuarts Draft Oct. 1, 1915, he was a son of the late Eugene Bartley and Hurcy Brooks Coffey.

Survivors include two brothers, Alfred Coffey and Fie Coffey, both of Stuarts Draft; three sisters, Mrs. Lloyd Stinnett, Mrs. Guy England and Miss Minnie L. Coffey, all of Stuarts Draft; also a number of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday in Rankin Chapel United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Clyde W. Weaver with burial in Stuarts Draft Mennonite Church cemetery.

The body will remain at Etter Funeral Home until 3 p.m. when it will be placed in the church.

Active pallbearers will be Argel Losh, Drewer Mays, Chester Painter, W. S. Tillman, Clyde Fretwell and Henry Ellinger.

Friends will be received at the residence.

Fie Landon Coffey, 52, of Route 2, Stuarts Draft, was dead on arrival at Waynesboro Community Hospital at 12 noon Sunday.

Born in Augusta County Nov. 25, 1920, he was a son of the late Eugene Bartley and Hurcy Lee Brooks Coffey.

He was an employee of Waynesboro Nurseries, Inc. for the past 30 years. Surviving are one brother, Alfred C. Coffey of Stuarts Draft; three sisters, Miss Minnie Lee Coffey, Mrs. Guy P. (Margaret) England and Mrs. Lloyd L. (Willabell) Stinnett, all of Stuarts Draft; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Stuarts Draft Mennonite Church, conducted by the Rev. Clyde W. Weaver Jr. and the Rev. Charles Ramsey with burial in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Glenn Mays, Drewry Mays, Argel Losh, Harry T. Fretwell, W. S. Tillman and Chester Painter.

Active pallbearers will be Grover Coffey, Scottie Coffey, Billy Coffey, Orvin Stinnett, Tommy Fretwell and Edward Latsko.

The body will remain at the Etter Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home and at the late residence.

STUARTS DRAFT-Miss Hurcy Ellen Coffey, 43, died at 1:45 a.m. today at her home on Route 2.

She was a former member of Rankin's Methodist Chapel. She was born in Stuarts Draft on Aug 1, 1926, a daughter of the late Eugene Bartley and Hurcy Brooks Coffey.

She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Lloyd Stinnett, Mrs. Guy England and Miss Minnie Coffey, all of Stuarts Draft; three brothers, Alfred Coffey, Elmer Coffey and Fie Coffey, all of Stuarts Draft; a number of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The body will remain at Etter Funeral Home until 12:30 p.m. Thursday, when it will be placed in Stuarts Draft Mennonite Church, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Paul Barnhart and the Rev. Clyde W. Weaver Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be W. S. Tillman, Driver Mays, Chester Painter, John England, Tucker Fretwell and Harold Fretwell.
