Fordie R. Coffey, 61, of Stearns, Ky., passed away Sunday, December 26, at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky.

He was the son of the late Ruben Coffey and the late Alice Vaughn Coffey. Mr. Coffey was a retired coal miner and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Nelson Coffey of Stearns, Ky.; four sons: Brassfield Coffey of Rt. 1, Stearns, Ky., George L. Coffey of Liberty, Ky., Jerry L. Coffey of Dayton, Ky., and Ricky Coffey of Whitley City, Ky.; three daughters: Mrs. Alice Bell of Grants Lick, Ky., Mrs. Connie Phillips of Oneida, and Donna Kay Coffey of Rt. 2, Stearns, Ky.; two brothers: Sterling Coffey, and Homer Coffey, both of Stearns, Ky.; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 29, at 2 p.m. at the Hickman Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. William Earl Woodson officiating. Burial was in the Barron Fork Cemetery.

Fordie Coffey and Betty Jo Nelson were married. Betty Jo Nelson was born on 3 March 1933 in Yamacraw, McCreary Co., KY. Betty died at University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Fayette Co., KY on 8 June 2001 and was buried at Barren Fork Cemetery in Barren Fork, McCreary Co., KY on 10 June 2001 .41404

Betty Jo Coffey, 68 of Stearns died June 8 2001 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, Ky. Funeral services were held June 10 2001 at 2 p.m. at McCreary County Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Doug Stephens and Bro William Earl Woodson officiating. Burial was in the Barren Fork Cemetery.

She was born March 3 1933 at Yamacraw, Ky to John C. Nelson and Lois M. Keith Nelson. She was a minister and a member of City of Refuge.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Fordie Coffey, son in law Garvel Phillips, brothers Bobby Nelson and John Nelson Jr.

Survivors include her children: Rick Coffey.Sr.(and Rosa), Brassfield Coffey(and Kim), Connie Phillips, Donna K Coffey and (Lowell) all of Stearns. George Lincoln Coffey and (Charolette) Liberty, Ky, Jerry Lee Coffey, Dayton, Ky, several grandchildren and one great grandchild, one brother Tommy Nelson, Stearns, four sisters, Shirley Davis, Burnside, Ky, Pam Bryant and (Norman) Whitley City, Patricia Loudermilk, Monticello, Ky and Kim Probus and (Dewayne) Wilmington Ky.
