Elsie Coffey, age 80 years, Stearns, Kentucky died April 1, 2008 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Somerset, Kentucky. Funeral services were held Thursday April 3, 2008 at the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Estel Jones officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

She was born at Jones Hollow, Kentucky on March 3, 1928 the daughter of the late Marcus and Flonnie Phillips Matthews. She was a homemaker and a member of the Cedar Grove United Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Grover Conley Coffey, two sons Larry Coffey and Randy Coffey, five brothers Logan Matthews, James Matthews, Marcus Matthews, Jr., Howard Matthews, and Larry Matthews, and three sisters Magaline Kidd, Evelyn Lee, and Nettie Phillips.

Survivors include two sons Sandy Coffey and Mark Coffey both of Stearns, Kentucky, seven daughters Helen Penick, Lois Sierra, Bonnie Shelton, and Elizabeth Gregory all of Stearns, Kentucky, Ellen Snyder, Mary Woodcock, and Lorraine Moss all of Louisville, Kentucky, and one brother Leonard Matthews of Pine Knot, Kentucky. 28 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild also survive.

Ellen Mae (Coffey) Snyder, 63, formerly of the Clark Hollow-Slavens community in McCreary County, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2012 in Louisville, Ky after a long illness. Ellen was born March 16, 1949 in McCreary County, Kentucky and was of the Baptist Faith.

Preceding her in death were her parents Grover Conley Coffey and Elsie (Matthews) Coffey. Her paternal Grandparents James Ode Coffey and Alcie (Jones) Coffey and Marcus Matthews and Flonnie (Phillips) Matthews. Also preceding her were three brothers Larry Coffey, Randy Coffey, and Sandy Coffey.

Surviving her in death is her husband David Snyder, her twin daughters Crystal Clark and Connie Burgess, Three Grandchildren Kristen Clark, Brandon Clark and Amber Burgess, all of Louisville, Ky. Six sisters Helen Penick – Stearns, Ky, Mary Woodcock – Louisville, Ky, Lois Sierra – Louisville, Ky, Elizabeth Gregory – Stearns, Ky, Bonnie Shelton – Stearns, Ky, and Loraine Moss - Louisville, Ky and one brother Mark Coffey – Stearns, Ky. Also surviving her are numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews whom she cherished and adored.

Ellen Mae Snyder enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing, music, traveling, and collecting antiques. Her favorite past-time was oil and pastel painting.

Her body was cremated and arrangements were private.

Sandy Coffey age 48 years, of Stearns, Kentucky died April 8, 2008. Funeral services were held Saturday April 12, 2008 at the McCreary County Funeral Home with Rev. David Troxell officiating.

He was born at Slavens, Kentucky on November 28, 1959 the son of the late Grover Conley and Elsie Matthews Coffey. He was a logger and a member of Hilltop Baptist Church.

His parents and two brothers Randy Coffey and Larry Coffey precede him in death.

Survivors include one son James H. Coffey of Strunk, Kentucky, four daughters Beth Canada and Amy Coffey both of Strunk, Kentucky, Ashley Coffey of Somerset, Kentucky, and Tiffany Knott of Clarkson, Kentucky. One brother Mark Coffey of Stearns, Kentucky, and seven sisters Helen Penick, Lois Sierra, Elizabeth Gregory, and Bonnie Shelton all of Stearns, Kentucky, Ellen Snyder, Mary Woodcock, and Lorraine Moss all of Louisville, Kentucky also survive.
