Cornelius T. ‘Bud’ Hartley

Mr. Cornelius T. “Bud” Hartley Jr., 81, of Boone, died Wednesday evening, July 11, 2007, at the Watauga Medical Center.

He was born June 5, 1926, in Watauga County, a son of Elsie Johnson Hartley and Cornelius Talmadge Hartley Sr.

Mr. Hartley was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blowing Rock and attended Valle Crucis United Methodist Church. He owned and operated Hartley Electric Shop in Blowing Rock for 29 years, after serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Polk Hartley; one son, Neil Hartley, and wife, Audrey, of Boone; two grandsons, Dennis Hartley of Boone and Tal Hartley and wife, Kara, of Denver, Colo.; his great-granddaughter, Eryn Allyson Hartley of Denver, Colo.; one sister-in-law, Ellen Hartley of Blowing Rock; and one brother-in-law, Jim West of Atlanta, Ga. Several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius Talmadge and Elsie Johnson Hartley; and siblings, Grace Hartley Bruck, Marvin Sloan Hartley, Eula Hartley Crisp, Roger Elliott Hartley and Audrey Hartley West; and his mother-in-law, Mattie Lue Polk.

Services were conducted Saturday morning at 11 at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Allen Marsh. Burial followed at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.

Austin & Barnes Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Hartley family.
