George died of acute pulmonary edema on 21 June 1970 at the age of 81 at Oakwood Knoll Nursing Home in Kernersville, Forsyth Co., NC and was buried at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery in Granite Falls, Caldwell Co., NC on 23 June 1970.33726,33727

Sam Arnold Reid was born on 18 July 1925 in Caldwell Co., NC. Sam died at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care in Lenoir, Caldwell Co., NC on 18 January 2014 and was buried at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Granite Falls, Caldwell Co., NC on 21 January 2014 .33730,33731

Sam A. Reid, 88, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Jan. 18 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care.

Sam was born July 18, 1925. He was a faithful member of Clover Baptist Church and the Andrews Sunday School Class. Retired fireman of Sawmills Fire Dept. and board member. He was also a WWII Army Veteran.

Those waiting to Welcome him home are his father and mother, Thomas and Hattie Coffey Reid. His first wife Mary Elizabeth "Lib" Smith Reid. One son, Samuel E. Reid Sr. 4 brothers, Harold, Boyd, Jack and Perry. 2 sisters, Pearl R. McRary and Hazel R. Keller.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 25 years, Helen Medford Reid, of the home. One daughter-in-law Bertha Reid of Granite Falls. One grandson Samuel E. Reid Jr. and wife Karen of Lenoir. Two sisters Shirley Winter and husband Danny of Toms River, NJ. Cleo Clark and husband Hoke of Sawmills.

He is also survived by his extended family, two step sons David Medford of Whiteville, NC and Tracy Medford of Concordia, MO. 5 step grandchildren and 5 step great-grandchildren. A number of nieces and nephews and special friends of the Breakfast Bunch of Hardees.

The funeral was held at Clover Baptist Tuesday at 2:00 pm. Officiating was Revs. Keith Childers and Jim Hamby. Burial followed the funeral with full military honors at Sunset Hills Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Larry Roberts, Dorman Winkler, Wade Yount, Jim Evans, Tommy Simmons and Wayne Wilcox. Honorary pallbearers were Andrew S.S. Class and retired and serving Sawmills Fire Department firemen and wives. Military honors were provided by DAV Chapters 84 and 6.

Mackie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
