"Buena Vista, June 24 - The body of Gilmer C. Coffey, 42, of South River, was found this morning lying between the tracks of the Norfolk and Western Railway Company near the N&W station here. Dr. Robert Eason, city coroner, attributed death to a heart attack 10 to 12 hours earlier.

"A painter, Coffey is survived by his mother, Mrs. Annie Coffey, of Rockbridge County; his wife, Mrs. Katherine Wiseman Coffey; five children, Calvin, Dorline, Darlis Jean, Thomas and Ray; seven brothers, John of Buena Vista; James, of Baltimore; Herbert, Garnett,Ashley, Edwell and Roy Coffey, all of Rockbridge County, and four sisters, Mrs. E. Long of Buena Vista; Mrs. Sam Allen, of Rockbridge County; Mrs. Margaret Whiteside and Mrs. Ruby Gilbert of Amherst County.

"A funeral service will be held Tuesday afternoon at the home of Roy Coffey, with burial in Green Hill Cemetery."

Catherine Wiseman Coffey, 92, of Buena Vista, died on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Buena Vista. 

She was born on April 17, 1918, in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Sylvester Wiseman and Alice Scott Wiseman. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilmer Coffey; and a daughter, Darlis Jean Pruitt. Mrs. Coffey was a member of the Stone Church of the Brethren. 

Surviving are her three sons, Calvin Coffey, of Buena Vista, Va., Tommy Coffey, of Rockbridge Baths, Va., and Ray Coffey, of Franklin, Tenn.; one daughter, Dorlene Snider; a twin sister, Margaret Coffey, both of Buena Vista; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. 

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Stone Church of Brethren with the Rev. Russ Barb officiating. Burial to follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2011, at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Buena Vista, Va., 540-261-5510.
