Casper died in Virginia on 3 July 2010 and was buried at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton, Independent City., VA on 8 July 2010 .29920

Casper Atwood Gilbert, 85, widower of Ruby Mae (Coffey) Gilbert of 1841 Broadhead School Road, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2010, at his residence.

Mr. Gilbert was born June 26, 1925, in Buena Vista, a son of the late Ezra Eugene and Annie (Hamilton) Gilbert.

Mr. Gilbert was a veteran of the United States Marines during WWII and retired from Crompton in 1982. He also worked for the U.S. Forest Service and Stoney Creek Resort. He enjoyed farming, gardening and was known to be a hard worker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Elizabeth Gilbert and a brother, Lyle Gilbert. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy Lee Gilbert and his wife, Prima, and Michael Daniel Gilbert and his wife, Amelia; a daughter, Janet Noreen (Gilbert) Almquist, all of Middlebrook; four grandchildren, Eric Todd Gilbert, Howard Keith Gilbert, Mary Elizabeth Gilbert and Angelia Marie Bennett; a great granddaughter, Tyler Bennett; step- grandchildren, Ruperto Nogra Jr., Ruperto Nogra III and France Xavier Nogra; and a niece, Bonnie (Gilbert) Campbell.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010, in Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Steve Coffey.

Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010, in the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be William Grant, Roy Junior Coffey, Tommy Coffey, T.C. Daniel, James Fravel and Jeff Shifflett.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton, is in charge of his arrangements.
