Eria died on 11 February 2006 at the age of 78 in Stony Point, Alexander Co., NC and was buried at Stony Point Cemetery in Stony Point, Alexander Co., NC on 14 February 2006.

Eria Evelyn Lackey Pennell, 78, of 84 Rommie Lane in Stony Point, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born in Alexander County on March 29, 1927, a daughter of the late Bron Efrim Lackey Sr. and Edna Moose Lackey.

She was a retired furniture worker and a member of Stony Point Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking and singing and spending time with her grandchildren, who were the joy of her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Hilda Gryder and Cynthia Bolick; three brothers, Gilbert Lackey, Talmedge Lackey and Jeff Lackey; and one grandson, Brian Hammer.

Survivors include her husband, Rayford Pennell, of the home; three daughters, Alva Jean Patterson and husband Donald of Morganton, Rae Ann DeCoteau of Stony Point and Sue Taylor and husband David of Taylorsville; one son, Kirk Pennell and wife Lena of Stony Point; two sisters, Dot Marshall of Taylorsville and Jackie Teague of Hiddenite; one brother, Bron E. Lackey Jr. of Stony Point; grandchildren Rob and Tammy Grant, Michelle Mays, Shannon and Tammy Pennell, Shane and Melissa Hammer, Tracy and LaDonna Ledford, David and Misty Martin, Julie and Leslie Patterson and Derek DeCoteau; great grandchildren Tyler Conner, Taylor Pennell, Mackenzie Pennell, Gracie Ledford, Kaelyn Martin, Olivia Ledford and Kyndall Hammer; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 4 p.m. at Stony Point Cemetery. Rev. Mark Marshall, Rev. J.T. Cline and Rev. Rusty Lackey will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home in Taylorsville, and at other times will assemble at the home.

Pallbearers will include Victor Lackey, Matt Lackey, Tim Marshall, Craig Pennell, Terry Pennell and Dennis Teague.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the American Diabetes Association, 222 South Church Street, Suite 336 M, Charlotte, N.C. 28202.
