Fifth Generation

163. Celia Coffey was born circa 1777 in North Carolina. She appeared in the census on 12 September 1850 in Russell Co., KY.502

This is probably the daughter that married Fielding Coffey, a likely son of Nebuzaradan. She was referred to as "Jane Sealy" in Joel's 1789 will, and may be where the name "Sealy" originated.

Marvin Coffey wrote that he had been unable to find any Sealy families in any Virginia or North Carolina county where Coffees are known to have lived.

Celia Coffey and Fielding M. Coffey were married on 13 March 1800 in Madison Co., KY.503,504 Fielding M. Coffey, son of Nebuzaraden Coffey and Elizabeth Hayes, was born circa 1777. Some researchers list this child as Allen, but in the census she is listed as Aley. However, there was an Allen Coffey in Russell Co., who was married to Perlina (or Paulina) Staton on 30 Oct. 1831. This Allen sold land in Russell Co., in 1835 to Martin Coffey who had married Mary McGuire in 1830. There is also a reference to land of a John Coffey and to that of Elijah Coffey, perhaps a son of Cleveland who married Mariah, daughter of Eli. Marvin Coffey questioned whether Allen and Martin belong in this family, or to some other related family.
