Buena Vista - Thurman L. Coffey, Sr., age 66, died February 21, 1991, in a Roanoke Hospital. He was born in Buena Vista, the son of the late Walker L. and Sarah Montgomery Coffey. He was a member of the American Legion Post #126 and was retired from the Buena Vista Public School System. Surviving are his wife, Normagene Fix Coffey; one daughter, Yolanda Coffey, Buena Vista; two sons, Thurman L. Coffey, Jr. and Stanley B. Coffey, both of Buena Vista; four sisters, Mrs. Katherine Rogers, Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; Mrs. Edith Phillips, York, S.C.; Mrs. Roxie Barksdale, Lynchburg; Mrs. Betty Teague, Lexington; four grandchildren, Michelle, Kara, Danielle, and Drew (the little man). Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Stone Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Harold Bowman. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Lomax Funeral Home.

Thurman Lee Coffey and Carrol Normagene Fix were married. Carrol Normagene Fix, daughter of Decker Reed Fix and Nellie A. , was born circa 1934 in Buena Vista, Independent City, VA. She lived with her parents in Buena Vista, Independent City, VA on 26 April 1940.
