38. Capt. Robert Cleveland86,87 was born on 8 January 1744 in Blue Run, Orange Co., VA.28 Robert died in Wilkesboro, Wilkes Co., NC on 10 April 1812 and was buried at Cleveland Cemetery in Purlear, Wilkes Co., NC in April 1812 .88

Capt. Robert Cleveland and Alice "Aley" Mathis were married before 1770 in Kentucky.

Robert may be the same Robert that was in Pittsylvania Co., VA before arriving in Wilkes Co. There is a 1799 land entry in that county for a Robert Cleveland as well. Source cited is Deed Book 5, page 91.

This family moved to Wilkes Co., NC (land entry dated 1 Oct 1779) where they remained for the rest of their lives. Robert was a captain in the Revolutionary War, and was at King's Mountain. He is said to have sired 17 children by two wives. Alice "Aley" Mathis was born on 11 December 1750 in Kentucky. Alice died in Wilkes Co., NC on 18 December 1791 and was buried at Cleveland Cemetery in Purlear, Wilkes Co., NC in December 1791 .89
