1182. Hudson "Huddie" Coffey was born circa 1805 in Virginia. He lived with his parents in Amherst Co., VA on 17 September 1850.
Hudson was born in what is now Nelson Co., VA. He and brother Schylar left Nelson Co. to live in Amherst. They were still in Nelson in 1826, but gone by 1828 when William Coffey (son of John Coffey and Jane Graves, and husband of Elizabeth Osborne) died in Nelson Co.

Hudson "Huddie" Coffey and Mrs. Mahala Green Layne were married on 20 September 1855 in Amherst Co., VA.4633,4634 They4633,4634 appeared in the census on 31 July 1860 in Amherst Co., VA.4635 They4635 appeared in the census on 22 August 1870 in Amherst Co., VA.4636 Mrs. Mahala Green Layne was born circa 1813 in Amherst Co., VA.

The 1850 census contains several Green families in Eastern Amherst Co. Those that Mahala could belong to are: Ann C. Green, born c1822; J. B. Green, born c1824; Laurance Green, born c1839, and Sarah Green, born c1773.

She lived with her son James E. Coffey in Campbell Co., VA on 21 June 1880.

Mahala was a widow when she married Hudson. It is not know whether she had children by her first husband.
