Helen Gay Coffey Keith of Agricola died Friday, May 10, 2013, at Virginia Baptist Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Alto, (Coffeytown) on April 1, 1922, the 11th of 12 children born to Hiter and Mary Fanny (Mamie) Coffey.

She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church in Agricola where she served as pianist/organist and church treasurer. She was also an active charter member of the Pedlar Valley Garden Club. She was employed by the Lynchburg Livestock Market from 1941 until her retirement in 2004.

Helen was much loved by her family and friends and will be missed by all who knew her. She was especially proud of her great-grandchildren, and took part in all activities involving them and their families. She was very independent until her illness and enjoyed her weekly Rook games and get-togethers with her friends.

Helen was the wife of the late R. Lewis Keith; and is survived by her three children. Bob Keith, Beverly K. Campbell and husband, Bruce, and Rita K. Jefferson and husband, Tom. She was grandmother to Kathryn J. Cook and husband, Benjie, Mike Jefferson, Amy Campbell, Kate C. McPhatter and husband, Chet, and Rob Campbell; and great-grandmother to Emma McPhatter, Claire McPhatter, Chase McPhatter, Lauryn Cook and Landon Cook.

Visitation was held Monday, May 13, 2013, at Whitten Monelison Chapel, in Madison Heights and at other times at the residence. A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at the funeral home by Pastors Joyce Austin and Carey Lamb. Interment followed in Keith family cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Helen's honor to The Macedonia Community Association, 1408 Coffeytown Road, Vesuvius, VA 24483, since Macedonia was her childhood home church.

A living couple was married in 1941 in Amherst Co., VA.42431 Living, son of Harry Cleveland Keith and Effie Garrett, was born circa 1920 in Virginia.
