1968. James Cannon Coffey was born on 8 January 1838 in Buncombe Co., NC.

His death certificate lists his full name as James Cannon or Camron Coffey. He lived with the Wm. D. Jones family in Buncombe Co., NC on 21 June 1860. James enlisted in the Co. E, 37th NC Inf Regt. on 20 November 1861. James participated in battles at Bull Run, Antietam, Gettysburg, The Wilderness Campaign and the fall of Richmond. He surrendered with his company at Appomattox Court House on Apr. 9, 1865. James died of mitral regurgitation on 27 February 1915 at the age of 77 in Pensacola, Yancey Co., NC and was buried at Connell Springs, Burke Co., NC on 28 February 1915.7449,7450,7451,7452

James C. Coffey

Pensacola, N. C.., Feb. 28 - Special.

Mr. James C. Coffey, a Confederate veteran, died Saturday at the home of his son, Mr. Lemuel T. Coffey of this place. Mr. Coffey was born 77 years ago in Buncombe Co. and moved to Watauga County before the war. He lived many years in Caldwell County at Hudson and near Connelly Springs. He enlisted in the beginning of the war in the Confederate Army and served through the whole struggle. He was at Bull Run, Antietam, Gettysburg, in the Wilderness campaign and at the fall of Richmond and was with the army surrendered at Appomattox. He is survived by five sons and four daughters. His remains were sent to Connelly Springs for Interment.

Coffey and Lettie Collins, was born on 10 October 1843 in Hawkins Co., TN. She lived with her aunt Sarah Coffey Green in Jefferson Co., TN on 2 October 1850. She lived with her uncle McCaleb Coffey in Watauga Co., NC on 15 September 1860. Sarah died in Baton, Caldwell Co., NC on 30 May 1912 and was buried at Mountain Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Connell Springs, Burke Co., NC in June 1912 .7458

Sarah E. Coffey, wife of James C. Coffey, was born in Hawkins Co., Tenn., Oct 10, 1843, and departed this life May 30, 1912, being 68 years eigthy months and 20 days old. In early childhood she was left an orphan, and was bound to a Mr. Rainwaters [sic], whose wife illy treated her, and her Uncle Caleb Coffey hearing therof went after her and adopted her. At the age of about 18 she was united in marriage to James C. Coffey , son of Reuben Coffey. To them were born 11 children, ten of whom along with the husband survive. In the year 1861 she made public profession of Faith in Christ , and was baptised [sic] into the fellowship of Three Forks Baptist Church by Elder A. C. Farthing of Sainted Memory. She lived a consistent exemplary Christian Life to the time of her death, at which time she was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church.
