"Hiram R. Coffey

"Lynchburg, Va., Sept. 23. - Hiram R. Coffey, 38, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Coffey, died last Wednesday at his home at Alto, Amherst County, from typhoid fever. He was a farmer and a member of the Methodist Church.

"Besides his parents, Mr. Coffey is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Ernest W., Beadles and Leonard Coffey, Mrs. Powell Crawford, Mrs. Houston Crawford and Miss Sallie Coffey, of Alto; Mrs. Emmette Sales, of Sandiges, and Mrs. William Gibson and Mrs. Emmette Humphries, of Buena Vista."

Hiram Randolph Coffey and Susie A. (J.?) Catlett were married. They appeared in the census on 22 January 1920 in Amherst Co., VA.28210

There were no children born to this union. Susie was not buried in the same cemetery with her husband. Susie A. (J.?) Catlett was born about 1897 in Rockcastle Co., KY.

This may be the "Susa" Catlett enumerated in the 1900 census for South River, Rockbridge Co., VA. She was born in Apr., 1895 and was the daughter of Sam and Rosa Catlett.

There is a footstone marked SJC at Bridge Hill Cemetery. But, Susie is not buried there.
