SELINSGROVE Velma Virgina Ogden Shrawder, 86, of Grayson View, crossed over on Tuesday morning, May 27, 2014.
She was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Amherst County, Va., a daughter of the late Hugh Oliver and Myra Jane (Ogden) Ogden.
She grew up in the town of Buena Vista, Va. After the death of her mother, she was raised by her eldest sister, Dorothy, and her father, Hugh.

She graduated from Parry McClune High School, Buena Vista, Va., in 1945. In 1970, she obtained her license in practical nursing from Geisinger. Following World War II, Velma married Foster Shrawder Jr. and moved to Hummels Wharf.

She worked at many jobs, but took the most pride in her work as a nurse. She retired from the Selinsgrove Center in 1989 and spent her retirement traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

Velma was a proud member and past worthy matron of Eastern Star, Chapter 222, Selinsgrove, and a regular volunteer at her church, Christ Community United Methodist Church, Selinsgrove.

She also was a member and officer of the local AARP chapter and was an active member of the Parents and Friends of the Selinsgrove Center.

Velma's greatest joy was her family.

Velma was loved by many and will be sorely missed by friends and family.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, June S. and Dale Hoot, of Selinsgrove; three sons and one daughter-in-law, F. Stuart Shrawder, of Sunbury, Jeffery A. Shrawder, of Selinsgrove and Michael S. and Karen Shrawder, of Selinsgrove; four grandchildren, Colleen Shrawder and her husband, Matt Kreska, Katrina Shrawder and Zachary and Joshua Shrawder; two great-granddaughters, Kathryn and Rebecca Kreska; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Hugh Ogden Jr. and Becky and Margaret Ogden, all of Buena Vista, Va.; many nieces and nephews, with whom she kept close contact throughout the years; and a special relationship locally with Kristin and Andrea Hoot, of Port Trevorton.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Smith O., Rader M. and Harold L. Ogden, and two sisters, Dorothy and Hilda Coffee.

Visitors may call from 11 to noon Saturday at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, with an Eastern Star memorial service at noon followed by the funeral with her nephew, the Rev. Stanley Ogden, officiating.
Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.

Velma Virginia Ogden and Foster Shrawder were married. Foster Shrawder, son of George Shrawder and Jane , was born on 31 January 1890. Foster died in Snyder Co., PA in August 1976. His burial site is not known to me. in August 1976 .47946
