She appeared in the census on 16 June 1880 in Grainger Co., TN.8791 She appeared in the census on 2 June 1900 in Grainger Co., TN.8792 Nancy appeared in the census on 21 April 1910 at Dist. 4 in Claiborne Co., TN.8793 Nancy died on 27 August 1915 at the age of 74 in Tazewell, Claiborne Co., TN and was buried at Campbell Cemetery in Tazewell, Claiborne Co., TN.8794

"She was the daughter of Nathan P and Elizabeth (Coffey) Whitsett.

"She married Carter J Dalton at the age of 13 on Aug 19, 1854, in Grainger County, Tennessee. According to court records, he beat her with a stick and she obtained a divorce. She married him the second time on Jan. 21, 1860 in Grainger County, Tennessee. 

"Carter and Nancy were the parents of Susan, Tandy, Betty Tennessee and Pleasant "Pleas" Dalton.

"After her husband's death in 1877, she had two children out of wedlock with Anderson Dalton. The children were Matilda and Milton Carter Dalton. Then she had a child out of wedlock with Tandy Dalton. This child was Charles S. Dalton.

"On Oct. 14, 1888, she married James Wiley Cozart, a widower some 28 years her senior. He died in 1906. After the death of her second husband, she resided with her son, Milton Carter Dalton, in Tazewell, Claiborne, Tennessee." [Rick Miller]

He lived with his parents in Grainger Co., TN on 15 October 1850. Carter died on 11 July 1877 at the age of 39 in Thorn Hill, Grainger Co., TN and was buried at Dalton Cemetery in Thorn Hill, Grainger Co., TN.8799,8800

Nancy Elizabeth Whitsett and Tandy Witcher Dalton were never married. No marriage known. Tandy Witcher Dalton, son of Carter Dalton and Matilda Witcher, was born on 18 November 1818 in Grainger Co., TN. Tandy died in Idol, Grainger Co., TN on 1 December 1909 and was buried at Dalton Cemetery in Thorn Hill, Grainger Co., TN in December 1909 .2596,2597,2598

This is part of a message exchange that I read in the Dalton forum on Genealogy.com; spelling errors by writer were left intact:

"Louisa Hipsher never married, but had three illigimate childern. Two of them were by Daltons. The first one was Sarah Jane b9/21/1858 the father was Reuben Anderson Dalton. The third one was Arch b1868 the father was Tandy Witcher Dalton. Also her sister Sarah Hipsher had an illigitimate son Lee Hipsher b3/6/1865 by Reuben Anderson Dalton. These can all be found in the "Bastardy Bond" in Granger Co TN."
