Verna Coffey Workman, 93, of Raleigh, N.C., died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, in Raleigh.
Mrs. Workman was the mother of former state representative David L. Coffey of Oak Ridge.
A former resident of Bristol, Va., she was an active member of First Baptist Church of Bristol. She sang in the church choir for more than 40 years and was also active in the church's Sunday school and Women's Missionary Union.

After moving to Raleigh five years ago, Mrs. Workman became an active member of First Baptist Church of Raleigh. She was also a member and former president of the Bristol Music Club, a life member and former president of the Virginia Federation of Music Clubs, and an active participant in literary and garden clubs.

Her first husband, Charles W. Coffey, and her second husband, Robert Workman, both died earlier.

In addition to her local son and his wife, Patricia Coffey, Mrs. Workman is survived by two other sons, Dr. C.E. Coffey and his wife, Pamela Coffey, of Atlanta, Ga., and Dr. H.T. Coffey of Carlsbad, Calif.; her daughter, Evelyn C. Barrett and her husband, Bob Barrett, of Cary, N.C.; her brother, William Pardue of Syracuse, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Marie Pardue of Jacksonville, Fla.; and by 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was to be held at 11 this morning, Dec. 15, at Independence Village in Raleigh with the Rev. Mike Morris officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, Tenn., with Dr. Rand Forder officiating.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to First Baptist Church, 99 N. Salisbury St., Raleigh, NC 27603; or to First Baptist Church, 1 Virginia St., Bristol, VA 24201.

Brown-Wynne Funeral Homes in Cary is handling arrangements.
