Ruby Greene

Mrs. Ruby Evelyn Coffey Greene, 71, of Hudson, died Monday, June 22, 2009, in Caldwell Memorial Hospital.

Born May 7, 1938, in Avery County, Mrs. Greene was a daughter of the late George Dewey and Elva Gragg Coffey, and the wife of Harvey Eugene Greene. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Norma Woodie, Essie Logan; and one brother, George Hubert Coffey.

Mrs. Greene was a graduate of Newland High School. She was a member of Ambassador Baptist Church and the John and Roman's Ministry. She had worked with Hemlock Manufacturing, was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and gardening. Her hobbies included collecting thimbles and book matches.

Surviving, other than her husband, are three sisters, Dot Dellinger and husband Sam of Lenoir; Shirley Perry of Lenoir, Nelda Coffey and husband Douglas of Hudson; four brothers-in-law, Paul Greene and wife Sue of Hickory, Jack Greene and wife Jeanette of Hudson, George Greene and wife Louise of Lenoir, Jerry Greene and wife Kay of Lenoir; one sister-in-law, Judy Fata of Bishopville, S.C.; and 26 nephews and nieces.

A celebration of Mrs. Greene's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2009, in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with the Rev. Robert Setzer officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at Evans Funeral Service.

Pallbearers will be Scott Walker, Kevin Walker, Randy Dellinger, Charles Dellinger, Tony Woodie, Michael Greene, George Greene and Jerry Greene.

Hudson, NC- Mr. Harvey Eugene “Gene” Greene, age 78, of Hudson, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Wake Forest University Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Born December 11, 1933 in Caldwell County, Mr. Greene was a son of the late V.N. and Edith Barlow Greene.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Ruby Evelyn Coffey Greene and two brothers, Ira N. and Ward W. Greene.

Mr. Greene loved his Lord and Savior and was a faithful member of the Ambassador Baptist Church. He loved his church family and enjoyed worshipping with them. He was a U.S. Army veteran and had worked in the furniture industry in management for many years.

He and his neighbors had a mutual love and respect for one another. He was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman in his younger years. His greatest love was his wife Ruby, whom he was a faithful caregiver before her death in 2009.

He is survived by one sister, Judy Greene Fata of Bishopville, SC; four brothers, Paul Greene and wife Sue of Hickory; J. Jack Greene and wife Janette of Hudson; George L. Greene and wife Louise of Lenoir; Jerry V. Greene and wife Kay of Lenoir and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mr. Greene’s life will be held 6:00 PM Friday, June 1, 2012 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Reverend Robert Setzer officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park with Full Military Honors.

The family will receive friends on Friday, from 5 until 6 PM, one hour prior to the service at Evans Funeral Service.
