Samuel C. Statom, Jr., 87, passed away Sunday morning at Morrison Woods Health Campus following a brief illness.

He was born in Danville, Kentucky, the son of Samuel C., Sr., and Alma (Coffey) Statom. He grew up mainly in Muncie and attended Lincoln, Longfellow, and Wilson before graduating from Burris Laboratory School in 1942. He was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard.

Mr. Statom worked for Delco Battery as a process engineer for over 26 years before retiring. He also worked as a landscaper for many years.

He was a member of Center Chapel United Methodist Church, Men for Missions, Gideons, and a scout master for the Boy Scouts of America for nine years.

Surviving are his son, Will Statom, Muncie; three sisters, Corrine Roscoe, Jean Gillis, and Wanda Pearson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna D. Statom, two brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral serivces will be at 6 p.m. on Wednesday with Pastor Rusty Clements officiating. Private entombment will be held at Elm Ridge Mausoleum.

Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday.

Anna died in Delaware Co., IN on 27 July 2003 and was buried at Elm Ridge Memorial Park in Muncie, Delaware Co., IN in July 2003 .40617
