STAUNTON-Frank McKinley Coffey, 71, of Route 2, Staunton died at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday in King's Daughters' Hospital after a long illness.

A native of Love, Nelson County, he was born July 9, 1895 a son of the late Nicholas Anderson and Violet Matilda Coffey. Mr. Coffey was a World War I veteran having served in the 35th Division, 128th Field Artillery and fought in the Battle of Argonne Forest.

In early life he was engaged in farming and for a number of years was employed by DuPont. Mr. Coffey had operated a mercantile business at Mint Spring and was last employed at DeJarnette State Sanatorium until he retired about seven years ago. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Waynesboro.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Cuba Crutchfield Coffey; two son, F. Tate Coffey of Route 2, Staunton, and Harold C. Coffey of Alexandria; three daughters, Mrs. Paul B. Blackburn Jr. of Route 1, Staunton, Mrs. Harvey L. Wheeler of Staunton, and Mrs. R. Guy Williams of Waynesboro; one brother, Herman Norwood Coffey of Woodstock; also 11 grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Jane Coffey Simmons, and an infant daughter preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Fred Henry Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Harry C. Rickard. Burial will be in Augusta Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Richard L. Coffey, W. B. Armstrong, E. P. Coiner, Erskin M. Furr, Guy Bailey, John James, John Sparrow and Martin Bergin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Hite Hartless, Sidney Reid, James W. Coffey Jr., Eddie Coffey, Stuart Benson, Summerson B. Holbert, Will C. Davis, Jimmy Thompson, B. H. Davis, Elmer Hays, Johnny Kiser, Ted Sweet, Walter Carrier, B. K. Lockridge, Luther E. Tanksley Sr., H. A. Harmon Jr., Fred Harmon, R. T. Wright, Fred Busic, Paul B. Blackburn Sr., Gordon McGann, Charles L. Furr, Harry T. Walters, Walter C. Berry, Allen Quick, Wilson Smith, H. Lynn Moore, Fred Hanger Sr., William H. Heatwole and W. M. Berry.

The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul B. Blackburn Jr. on the Old Greenville Rd. and will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 8 until 9.

FISHERSVILLE-Mrs. Jane Coffey Simmons, Route 1, Fishersville, died yesterday at 1 p.m. in the King's Daughters' Hospital shortly after being admitted as a patient.

A native of Waynesboro, she was born Aug. 13, 1931, a daughter of Frank M. and Cuba Crutchfield Coffey, Route 1, Fishersville. She was a member of Mint Spring Methodist Church.

Besides her parents, she is survived by twin sons, Dennis Dale Simmons and Daniel Wade Simmons, Roanoke; two brothers, F. Tatum Coffey, Route 2, Staunton and Harold C. Coffey, Washington, D. C.; three sisters, Mrs. Harvey L. (Lois) Wheeler, Staunton, Miss Merle Frances Coffey, Route 1, Fishersville and Mrs. R. Guy (Beverley) Williams, Waynesboro.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Fred Henry Funeral Home. The service will be conducted by the Rev. C. B. Dickenson, pastor of Mint Spring Methodist Church. Burial will be in Augusta Memorial Park near Fishersville.

Active pallbearers will be: Martin Bergin, Ray Houser, W. M. Berry, Walter C. Berry, Frank Lytton, Paul Livick and John Woebke.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Dr. C. F. Gaylord, W. A. Swortzel, F. O. Rower, J. T. Sparrow, E. L. Rexrode Jr., B. K. Lockridge, George Finch, Robert Bergin, S. R. Hill, Lewis F. Jordan, R. L. Farley and Carl W. Craun.

The family will receive friends at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey L. Wheeler, 136 Oakenwold Terrace.
