BOWIE, MD- Dovie Jane Hollander Plaster, 88, of Bowie, MD, formerly of Hickory, NC passed away October 7, 2011 at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, MD with her loving family at her bedside.

Dovie was born December 10, 1922 in Avery Co. to the late James Henry and Jane Webb Hollander. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James Carroll Plaster and nine brothers and sisters.

Dovie was a graduate of Crossnore School, Crossnore, NC class of 1941; Crossnore Business School Diploma 1943. Dovie earned a Chicago School of Nursing LPN Degree, Hickory Memorial Hospital, Hickory, NC 1952, and a Maryland State Nursing Degree. She worked at Crossnore School, Crossnore, NC, Business Dept, Hickory Memorial Hospital, Hickory, NC, and Greenbelt Convalescent Center, Greenbelt, MD 1965-1972 and private duty nursing. She retired in 1985 from District Photo, Beltsville, MD, (Photo Processor). She worked for the Dept. of Aging, Prince George's County, MD (1987- 1992) then continued with private duty nursing.

Dovie was a film extra in "The Forces of Nature" 1999, "Random Hearts" 1999, "The Contender" 2000 and "The Passing" was released in 1985 as an independent movie which starred her husband, James Carroll Plaster.

She was a member of Greenbelt Baptist Church, Greenbelt, MD.

Dovie loved country music, her favorite performer was Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys. She also enjoyed reading biographical and children's literature, solving puzzles and drawing. She had a compassion for wildlife and nature, an avid bird lover. She was a sports fan of football, basketball and NASCAR racing. She loved family travel from Canada to Florida.

Surviving are two daughters; Martha Jane Plaster Guptill and husband, Bill of Bowie, MD, and Alice Marie Plaster of Bowie, MD and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday, October 15, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Ernest Richards officiating.

Interment will follow at Concord Methodist Church Cemetery, Long Island, NC at 1:00 PM Saturday October 15.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:45 until 10:45 AM at Hickory Funeral Home.

Dovie Jane Hollander and James Carroll Plaster were married. James Carroll Plaster, son of Claude Leonidus Plaster and Alice Brown, was born on 26 July 1917 in Catawba Co., NC. James died on 7 October 1981 at the age of 64 in North Carolina and was buried at Concord Methodist Church Cemetery in Catawba, Catawba Co., NC.36906,36907
