An Angry Cow Kills A Missouri Farmer

Stanberry, Mo. - William R. Coffey, 61, died last week at the St. Francis hospital in Maryville from injuries suffered several days before when he was attacked by an angry cow at this farm home ten miles southwest of Stanberry.

Mr. and Mrs. Coffey were attempting to separate the cow, not considered vicious, from her young calf. Mrs. Coffey went first to lead her from her calf. The cow attached her knocking her to the ground three times and fracturing her left ankle. Her husband went to her aid and was knocked to the ground and trampled by the cow. A hoof cut a deep gash in his throat.

When the cow returned to her calf, the Coffeys crawled to the protection of a near-by corn cultivator. Mrs. Coffey entered the family motor car, despite her broken ankle, and drove one-half mile for aid. Both were taken to the Maryville hospital.
