Claude R. Coffey, 25 years old, son of Doctor and Mrs. W. H. Coffey, was one of seventeen enlisted aviators from a class of eight hundred at the naval air station, San Diego, Cal., selected for and 8-week course on gas engines at Columbia University, New York. Young Coffey has another mark of honor, a 92 hour credit in "solo flying." Prior to enlistment he was with the Butler Motor Company, where he was employed after graduating from a 2-year course at Rose Polytechnic, Terre Haute, Ind. Doctor Coffey is a county coroner. Another son, Ralph R. Coffey, 19 years old, has just been commissioned at Fort Sheridan, Ill. He lived in New York City, Manhattan Borough, NY on 3 January 1920.27596 Claude died on 26 April 1969 at the age of 76 in Santa Ana, Orange Co., CA and was buried at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, Orange Co., CA on 29 April 1969.27597,27598

Claude R. Coffey

Claude R. Coffey, 76, of Santa Ana, Calif., formerly of Kansas City, died Saturday at the home. He was born here and lived here until he moved to Santa Ana 14 years ago. Mr. Coffey owned the former C. R. Coffey Upholstery & Supply Co. here for 30 years before he retired. He was a Mason and a member of the Santa Ana Elks lodge. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and a veteran of World War I. Mr. Coffey was a member of the Santa Ana First Presbyterian church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Coffey of the home; a son Jack Coffey, 10802 Oak and a brother, Dr. Ralph R. Coffey, 5211 Wornall road. Services will be held at 11 o'clock Tuesday at Waverly church, Santa Ana; burial in Fairhaven cemetery there.

Jack Woodward Coffey died on November 3, 2014 at Saint Joseph's Hospital.

Born on September 19, 1928, he was a life-long resident of Kansas City. He attended Border Star Elementary School, Kemper Military Academy, and the University of Missouri. While growing up, Jack developed a close relationship with his uncle, Dr. Ralph R. Coffey, and spent many hours going on hospital rounds with "Uncle Doc" and spending time at his grandparent's farm in Parkville, Missouri.

Following graduation, he was employed at General Hospital for more than 30 years as a purchasing agent. In 1937 Jack and his father went to see a Yankees spring training game, where he was able to obtain a baseball autographed by both Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth. He was very proud of this and derived much pleasure through the years from two hobbies that evolved from these experiences, amassing extensive sports memorabilia and train collections.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude R. and Irene (Woodward) Coffey, as well as his cousin, Annette Coffey Walker. Graveside services: Mt. Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes, on November 10, at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements: Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home.

Claude Romaine Coffey and Dorothy Ann Carlson were married. Dorothy Ann Carlson, daughter of Manne E. Carlson and Bertha E. Linquist, was born on 11 January 1912 in Kansas. Dorothy died in Orange Co., CA on 10 March 1989 and was buried at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, Orange Co., CA in March 1989 .27604,27605
