PLAINVIEW — Lee Clayton Coffey, 96, of Plainview died Saturday, May 18, 2013.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Hawkins officiating. Arrangements are by Bartley Funeral Home of Plainview.

Mr. Coffey was born Oct. 6, 1916, in Zephyr to Jon Narvin and Molley Couch Coffey. He married "Sunny" Jackson on Feb. 1, 1944, in Richardson.

Survivors include his beloved wife of Plainview; a daughter, Robyn Kay Coffey of Weatherford; a son, Lee "Pete" Jackson Coffey of Lubbock; and three grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Scholarship Fund at First Presbyterian Church, 2101 Utica, Plainview, TX 79072; or Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174.

Lee "Clayton" Coffey Ph.D.

Lee Clayton Coffey, 96, of Plainview, TX passed away on the 18th of May, 2013, in Plainview, TX.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, May 23, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend David Hawkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.

Lee was born on October 6, 1916 in Zephyr, TX to Jon Narvin and Molley Couch Coffey. He married “Sunny” Jackson on February 1, 1944 in Richardson, TX. They lived in Mason, Taylor, Fisher and Comanche counties where he served as a Country Agricultural Agent and in College Station where he was a special agronomist and Director of the Foundation Seed Program for Texas A&M. They moved to Plainview in 1964 to form the Excel Seed Co. Inc. He served in the U.S. Naval Air Corps during WWII and received BS and MA degree from his beloved Texas A&M and a Ph. D. from Iowa State College in Ames, IA.

Survivors include his beloved wife “Sunny” Coffey of Plainview; one daughter, Robyn Kay Coffey of Weatherford, TX and one son, Lee “Pete” Jackson Coffey of Lubbock; three grandchildren: Heather Coffey and Jamie Coffey of Austin, TX and Mari with husband Michael Urena II of Lafayette, LA with their two children Michael Lee III and Tristyn Michelle; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, and a daughter, Vicki Lynn Coffey. Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Jackson of Rt. 5, Dallas, announced the engagement of their daughter, Sunny, Sunday afternoon to Lee C. Coffey at an informal tea in the home of Mrs. S. M. Cunningham in Denton. Mr. Coffey of Brownwood is a graduate of Texas A. & M. College and Ensign in the Naval Air Corps. The bride-elect is a senior at N.T.S.T.C. [North Texas State Teachers College].

A pink and white color scheme was used with Miss Mintora Nowlin and Doyle McCuller entertaining. Misses Conna [sic] Lee Dougherty and Lois Lusk were hostesses with Miss Ann Vinson presiding at the tea table. They24905 were married on 1 February 1944 in Richardson, Dallas Co., TX.24906 Sunshine Jane "Sunny" Jackson, daughter of Luther Jackson, was born on 6 May 1922 in Dallas, Dallas Co., TX. Sunshine resided with her parents in Dallas Co., TX on 8 April 1940. Sunshine died in Plainview, Hale Co., TX on 8 September 2019 and was buriedd at Parklawn Memorial Park in Plainview, Hale Co., TX in September 2019 .
