Pfc. Noel B. Coffey, 22, United States Marine Corps, son of Mr. and Mrs. Noel B. Coffey, Sr., of Telegraph road, Fairfax County, was wounded in action in July in the Saipan fighting, according to information received from the Navy Department by his wife, Mrs. Ruby L. Coffey of Route 5, Alexandria.

Pfc. Coffey, who has been overseas for nine months, enlisted in the Marine Corps n August 17, 1942. Prior to entering the service he was employed as a branch manager by the Washington Times-Herald. He has a son, Noel B. Coffey, 3d. He is a graduate of Lee-Jackson High School, Fairfax County.

He has two brothers in the service, Pfc. William H. Coffey, who is serving in the same marine division, and James E. Coffey, seaman, first class, United States Navy, who is also in the Pacific. Noel died on 1 September 1993 at the age of 73 in Alexandria City, VA and was buried at Sharon Chapel Cemetery in Alexandria City, VA.43240

NOEL BOYD COFFEY JR. DIES

WAS SENATE DOORKEEPER

Noel Boyd Coffey Jr., 73, a Senate doorkeeper and an activist in Alcoholics Anonomyous for the last 12 years, died of congestive heart failure Sept. 1 at Alexandria Hospital.

Mr. Coffey was a former Alexandria real estate broker who in 1977 was convicted on charges of larceny after trust in connection with the operation of his business. He subsequently served 19 months in federal and state prisons, and there he became involved in the Prison Fellowship project founded by former White House aide Charles W. Colson.

Colson helped Mr. Coffey get a job as a Senate doorkeeper after his release from prison, and Mr. Coffey worked there until his death.

In this period, Mr. Coffey also participated in several Alcoholics Anonomyous projects, including the running of meetings and counseling of other alcoholics.

A resident of Alexandria, Mr. Coffey was born in Nelson County, Va. He moved to the Washington area as a child.

As a young man he worked with his father in a screen manufacturing business, sold life insurance and was a circulation manager for the Washington Times-Herald newspaper.

During World War II he served in the Marine Corps in the Pacific. He participated in combat operations at Saipan and the Marshall Islands and was wounded in action.

After the war he operated a real estate business, Coffey Realty, in Alexandria.

His marriages to Ruby Louise Coffey and Connie Coffey ended in divorce.

Survivors include a daughter from his first marriage, Judith Ann Coffey, and two sons from his second marriage, Joseph Michael Coffey and John Brian Coffey, all of Alexandria; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A son from his first marriage, Noel Boyd Coffey III, died in 1983
