ROSELAND-Mrs. Maggie May Campbell, 77, of Route 1, Huddleston, and formerly of Roseland, died Tuesday evening in Bedford County Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Nelson County on April 30, 1903, the daughter of the late Charles N. and Melissa Truslow Fitzgerald, and was the widow of Haywood O. Campbell.

Surviving are two sons, Windom Carroll Henderson of Waynesboro and Kemper Griffith Henderson of Grottoes; two daughters, Mrs. Duane R. (Elsie) Densmore of Battle Creek, Mich. and Mrs. Joseph E. (Opal) Harper of Huddleston; two sisters, Mrs. John (Helen) Falls of Afton and Mrs. William (Swannie) Wiggins of Roseland; and 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the Etter Funeral Home in Waynesboro, conducted by the Rev. J. D. Ferries. Burial will be in Beech Grove Christian Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jerry Campbell, Chester Campbell, Jessie Fitzgerald, Caskie Fitzgerald, Charles Whitesell and James Wiggins.

Honorary pallbearers will be Windom Henderson Jr., Tony Via, Basil Campbell, Melvin Dodd, Raymond Fitzgerald, Frank Armentrout, Burlin Landrum, Douglas Thompson, Mack Campbell and Berkley Campbell.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Addition pallbearers will be Thomas Fitzgerald, Blunt Ballowe and Worthy Thompson.

Obituary

Windom C. Henderson Sr., 71, of 919 Bridge St., died Wednesday morning [April 7, 1999] at his residence. He was born July 31, 1927, in Nelson County, a son of the late Thomas and Maggie Henderson Campbell. 

He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served during the Korean War. Windom was a member of Beech Grove Christian Church and was retired from Stanley Furniture Co., with more than 30 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George Thomas Henderson and Kemper Henderson. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Daisy H. Henderson; two sons, Windom C. "Windy" Henderson Jr., and his wife, Ronette, of Sherando, and Robert G. Henderson of Waynesboro; three daughters, Debbie H. Hatfield and her husband Gary of Newport News, Susie H. Truslow and her husband Ricky of Waynesboro, and Gail H. Hundley and her husband Barry of Stuarts Draft; six grandchildren, Scott Breeden, Chad Breeden, Brandon Hewitt, Jami Hewitt, Timmy Henderson and Jennifer Henderson; and two sisters, Elsie Densmore of Battle Creek, Mich., and Opal Harper of Vinton. 

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Funeral Service by Phillip R. Forehand with burial in Beech Grove Christian Church cemetery. 

Active pallbearers will be Scott Breeden, Chad Breeden, Brandon Hewitt, Nicholas Hundley, H.L. Phillips and Mark McGann. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Margaret Mae "Maggie Mae" Fitzgerald and Haywood Owens Campbell were married. Haywood Owens Campbell, son of Marcellus C. Campbell and Laura A. Dodd, was born on 16 August 1902 in Virginia. BEECH GROVE-Haywood Owens Campbell, 70, of Beech Grove, died at 4:45 a.m. today in Waynesboro Community Hospital following a short illness.

He was born in Nelson County, Aug. 16, 1902, a son of the late Marcellus and Laura Ann Dodd Campbell.

A retired millwright with Basic-Witz Corp. in Waynesboro, he was a member of the Beech Grove Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maggie May Fitzgerald Campbell; one daughter, Mrs. Joseph E. (Opal) Harper of Waynesboro; one step-daughter, Mrs. Duane R. (Elsie) Dinsmore of Battle Creek, Mich.; three step-sons, George Thomas Henderson of Battle Creek, Windom Carroll Henderson of Waynesboro, and Kemper Griffith Henderson of Grottoes; one sister, Mrs. James R. (Thelma) Leech of Waynesboro; three brothers, Berkeley M. Campbell, Maphis T. Campbell and McAuldman Campbell, all of Beech Grove; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Beech Grove Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. Elwood Campbell of Fredericksburg. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Chester Campbell, Jerry Campbell, Carroll Campbell, Jesse Fitzgerald, Brent Fitzgerald and Wilson Wiggins.
