COFFEY Major General John Jr. (Retired), 77, of Edmond.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 23, 1998 at Haskell Memorial Cemetery followed by a memorial service at the Central Church of Christ in Haskell, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the Oklahoma Military Department, Baggerley Funeral Home, and Kent Allen of Memorial Road Church of Christ.

He served the National Guard in Haskell, Chandler, Ardmore, Enid and Edmond before becoming the Oklahoma State Adjutant General in 1975 serving under Governor David Boren. He served until retirement in 1979. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, serving as an elder in Chandler, Ardmore and Enid. He was a deacon with the College Church and member of Memorial Road, Edmond.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gertie Coffey and a sister, Merna La Ferry of Haskell. He is survived by his wife, Melba Martin Coffey; a daughter, Ann Coffey McGuire and son-in-law, Vernon McGuire; and one granddaughter, Eliza.

Gen. Coffey was Oklahoma State Adjutant General.

Maj. Gen. John Coffey Jr. and Melba Elizabeth Martin were married on 22 December 1943 in Washington Co., AR.40052 Melba Elizabeth Martin was born on 22 March 1919 in Haskell, Muskogee Co., OK. Melba died on 19 February 1999 at the age of 79 in Oklahoma and was buried at Haskell Cemetery in Haskell, Muskogee Co., OK.40053

Graveside service for Melba Coffey, 79, of Edmond are 2:00 PM Saturday, February 20 at the Haskell Memorial Park Cemetery. She died February 19, 1999 in Oklahoma City.

Born March 22, 1919. She was a homemaker. She married the late John Coffey, Jr. on Dec. 22, 1943. She was a member of Memorial Rd. Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Major General John Coffey, Jr., former Adjutant General of the Oklahoma National Guard.

She is survived by a daughter, Ann Coffey McGuire & son-in-law Vernon McGuire & one granddaughter, Elizabeth McGuire, all of Edmond; 1 sister, Vera Clayton of the Vici Nursing Home; brother-in-law, Everett Davenport of Haskell; 3 sisters-in-law, Evelyn Martin of Edmond, Arlene Champagne of Broken Arrow & Lorena Henderson of St. Louis, MO; & many nieces & nephews.
