Ella Mae Hughett, 86, of the Ditney Trail community, passed away September 25, 2009, at Huntsville Manor Nursing Home in Huntsville.

Born August 19, 1923, she was preceded in death by her parents, William Nelson and Lelia Mae Abbot Coffey; her husband, James Lonzo Hughett; special friend, William Caney Terry; sisters: one infant, and Eva Coffey Pike; and step-sons: James Edward Hughett and William Edison Hughett and wife, Phyllis.

She was a member of Buffalo United Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons: William Caney Terry, Jr. and wife, Becky, of Clinton, and Rev. Don Hughett and wife, Lounicia, of Huntsville; step-children: John Hughett and wife, Carol, and Mattie McDaniels, all of Lorain, Ohio, Geraldine Walden and husband, Ben, of Pioneer, Joy Vaughn and husband, David, of South Amherst, Ohio, and Roy Hughett and wife, Rebecca, of Amherst Township, Ohio; three grandchildren, 24 step-grandchildren, one sister, Lola Duncan and husband, Bill, of Oneida; nieces and nephew: Sharon Phillips, Lola Mae Smith, Vickie Webb, Wannel Pike, Wanda Cotton, Joan Letner, Lelia Hamby, and Micky Pike; great-aunts: Marie Abbott and Geneva Abbot, both of Cincinnati, Ohio; and many other relatives.

Funeral service was conducted September 28, in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Rev. Carlie Duncan and Rev. Gary Griffith officiating. Interment followed at Smith-Forbis [aka H.C. Smith Family Cemetery] Cemetery.

West-Murley Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Ella Mae Coffey and James Lonzo Hughett were married. James Lonzo Hughett, son of Johnson Hughett and Luvania Griffith, was born in 1909. James died on 3 August 1984 at the age of 75 in Campbell Co., TN and was buried at Reed Cemetery in New River, Scott Co., TN on 6 August 1984.

HUGHETT, JAMES LONZO, 75, of Capital Hill, passed away Friday afternoon, August 3, 1984, at his home following a lingering illness.

Mr. Hughett was the son of the late Johnson Hughett and the late Louvania Griffith Hughett Petrey and was also preceded in death by his step-father, Willie Petrey; one son, James Edward Hughett; two sisters: Lindy Smithers and Viola Hughett; and three brothers: Alvin, Allen, and Earley Hughett. He was a member of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church on Annadale Road.

He is survived by his wife, Ella Mae Coffey Hughett of Capital Hill; two daughters: Mrs. Francis (Maggie) Lawson of Robbins, and Mrs. Ben (Geraldine) Walden of Capital Hill; one step-son, Caney Terry of LaFollette; three sons: Don Hughett of Capital Hill, William (Bill) Hughett of Dalton, Ga., and John T. Hughett of Lorain, O.; one brother, Rev. Lindsay Hughett of Oneida; one uncle, Fred Griffith of Helenwood; one aunt, Elzaty Manis of Rogersville; 17 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Winona Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Monday, August 6, with Rev. Arnold Smithers and Rev. Odus Lay officiating. The Singing Messengers sang. Burial was in the Reed Cemetery at New River. Pallbearers were: Darrell Harness, Eric Lay, John Morrell, Jr., Harrison Smith, Carl E. Strunk, and Martin Webb.
