Bennett Jackson Coffey Bennett Jackson Coffey, 85, of Salem, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday morning, April 12, 2008.

Jack was raised at the Hughes Memorial Home for Children and later served there as needed. He was a veteran of the 3rd Marine Division and fought in the Pacific during WWII. He later retired from AT&T after 44 years of service. Jack was an avid team bowler in Salem and was also a faithful servant of the Lord and participating member of Salem Wesleyan Church. Most of all, Jack was a devoted husband as well as a loving father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hezekiah Coffey; mother, Vitula Evelyn Carr Coffey; wife, Barbara T. Coffey; two brothers; three sisters; and a granddaughter, Jaclyn Lee Dabbs. His surviving family includes his daughters, Betty C. Brown, Mary C. Beck and husband, Danny, and Evelyn C. Dabbs and husband, Wayne; stepsons, Kenneth Alderman and wife, DeDe, and Michael Alderman; grandchildren, Elizabeth Hicks, Michele Alcon, Elisabeth Norris, Christina Willard, Dana Beck, and G. Wayne Dabbs II; step-grandchildren, Emily Hite and Mary Ashlyn Alderman; and five great-grandsons.

Friends visited on Monday, April 14, 2008, from noon to 5 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. The family received friends on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Salem Wesleyan Church. A funeral service began at 2 p.m. Interment followed at Sherwood Memorial Park. The Rev. Ken Dupin officiated.

Bennett Jackson "Jack" Coffey and Barbara Jeannette Tipton were married on 20 December 1975 in Danville, VA.43419 Barbara Jeannette Tipton, daughter of Ernest Esley Tipton and Nancy Irene Scott, was born on 22 August 1932 in Radford, Independent City, VA. Barbara died on 23 November 2006 at the age of 74 in Salem, VA and was buried at Sherwood Burial Park in Salem, VA on 27 November 2006.43420

Barbara Jannette Tipton Coffey, of Salem, is at peace with her Lord having passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, November 23, 2006 at her residence. She was the beloved wife of Bennett Jack Coffey, with whom she shared 31 years of marriage.

Born on August 22, 1932 in Radford, Barbara was an active member of Salem Wesleyan Church and enjoyed the fellowship of her church family. She was retired from AT&T with 22 years of service, but never retired from her love of league bowling where she and Jack made many wonderful friendships. Barbara loved being out in God's great outdoors and having the warm sun on her face.

In addition to her husband, those left to cherish her memory are sons, Michael Harris Alderman and Kenneth Wayne Alderman and wife, DeDe, all of Radford; granddaughters, Mary Ashlyn Alderman, of Radford, and Emily Claire Alderman, of Blacksburg; brother, Curtis Tipton, of Davidson, Md.; stepdaughters, Betty Jean Brown of Burlington, N.C., Mary Anne Beck and husband, Danny, of Blairs, Va., and Evelyn Dabbs and husband, Gary, of Providence, N.C.; stepgrandchildren, Vandy Hicks, Michele Alcon, Elisabeth Pinekenstein, Christina Beck, Dana Joy Beck, and Gary Wayne Dabbs II; great-grandchildren, Alexander Lopez and Kristen Tuck; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Barbara in death were her parents, Ernest Esley and Irene Scott Tipton; sister, Dorothy Alderman; and stepgranddaughter, Jaclynn Dabbs.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 26, 2006 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 27, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Salem Wesleyan Church in Salem. The Rev. Ken Dupin will officiate. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Salem Wesleyan Church Angel Tree Ministry at 424 Chamberlain Lane in Salem, Va. 24153.
