He registered for the WWI draft on 12 September 1918 in Miami Co., OH.14169 James died of chronic myocarditis on 10 August 1934 at the age of 53 at home in Allen Co., OH and was buried at East Cairo Cemetery in Cairo, Allen Co., OH.14170,14171

James R. Coffey, 53, died at 1 a.m. Friday at his home, 333 Ashwood Ave. He had been ill for the last six months. He is survived by a widow; one daughter, Mrs. Virginia Decker of Lima; two brothers, Jerry of Lima and Jake Coffey of Virginia and a sister, Mrs. Beatrice Neely of Lima. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the residence. The Rev. H. O. Cosnell will officiate. Burial will be in Cairo cemetery. The body will be removed from the Davis-Miller and Son funeral home to the residence Saturday morning.

James Rucker Coffey was born 22 February 1881 in Nelson County, Virginia. He was the son of Jesse C. Coffey and Nancy F. Allen of Nelson County.

Sometime after his birth, James' family moved to Pike County, Ohio and lived there until his father was murdered in 1887. Most of the family returned to Virginia at that time. James was living with his mother and one sister in Augusta County, Virginia per the 1900 census.

He married Martha Rebecca Anderson on 13 June 1900 in Greenville, Augusta County, Virginia. They remained in Augusta County until after the 1910 census, whereupon they moved to Ohio where he was employed at the Lima water works. James and Martha had no children but raised a foster child, Virginia Decker.

James died 10 August 1934 in Lima, Ohio and Martha died 11 December 1938 in Lima, Ohio. They are buried at E. Cairo Cemetery in Allen County, Ohio.

Martha died on 11 December 1938 at the age of 57 in Lima, Allen Co., OH and was buried at East Cairo Cemetery in Cairo, Allen Co., OH on 14 December 1938.14174,14175

Mrs. Marta Rebecca Coffey, about 65, of No. 3 Rowlands Row, died suddenly at her residence Sunday evening. Coroner Burt Hibbard attributed death to a heart attack.

Coroner Hibbard reported Mrs. Coffey had been visiting at the home of a neighbor, Mrs. Grace Fackler, and had walked inside the house and died.

Mrs. Coffey, the widow of James R. Coffey, is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Grover Bell of Waynesboro, VA.; Mrs. Virginia Decker, 1125 S. Atlantic ave.; and a sister, Mrs. Lillian Nuchols of Stanton, VA. Three grandsons and two granddaughters also survive.

The body will remain at the Davis-Miller and Son funeral home, N. West St. where services will be conducted at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Cairo cemetery.

Virginia B. Coffey was born circa 1915 in Virginia. She lived with her parents in Canaan, Wayne Co., OH on 6 February 1920.
