Charlie Hartford Staton, 78, of Rt. 1, Box 199, died at 1 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at Augusta Medical Center. He was born on June 14, 1920, at Rockbridge County, a son of Brown Hartford and Beulah Blackwell Staton.

Prior to retiring, he was employed by Houff Transfer Inc., Weyers Cave, for 19 years, and was a retired farmer. He was a member and elder emeritus of Mt Carmel Presbyterian Church. 

He was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Staton. Surviving are his widow, Nancy Smiley Staton, a con C. H. Staton II of Fairfax, a special friend, Andi Chittum and her son, Landon C. Chittum; and a sister, Elizabeth S. Carden of Chiristiansburg. 

A service will be conducted at 2p.m. on Saturday at Mc Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery by the Rev. C. William Cox, followed by a memorial service at the church. Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be nieces. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 tonight at Henry Funeral Home and at other times at the residence. Charlie Hartford Staton and Nancy Mae Smiley were married. Nancy Mae Smiley was born on 12 December 1929 in Virginia. Nancy died on 26 November 2005 at the age of 75 in Virginia and was buried at Mount Carmel Presbyterian Cemetery in Steeles Tavern, Augusta Co., VA.43273,43274

Nancy Mae (Smiley) Staton, 75, widow of Charlie Hartford Staton, of 127 Station Lane, Greenville, died at 1:05 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 26, 2005) in the Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville. She was born on Dec. 17, 1929 in Lexington, a daughter of the late Arthur Lee and Modema (Chittum) Smiley. Mrs. Staton was a member of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church. Her husband preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 1999. Family includes a son Charlie Hartford "C. H." Staton, II, of Fairfax; a brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Dorothy Smiley of Greenville; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Odie McCray of Staunton; a sister-in-law, Julia B. Smiley of Greenville; and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday (Nov. 28, 2005) in the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church by the Rev. M. Kerry Foster. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. today (Nov. 27, 2005) in the Henry Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Smiley, 100 Station Lane, Greenville.
