Fourth Generation

59. Joel Coffey177 was born circa 1770 in Amherst Co., VA. He signed a will on 21 November 1826 in Wayne Co., KY.178

Joel names only his wife Patsy in the will. He only makes reference to "...my children which are not grown..." Joel died in Wayne Co., KY in December 1826.

It is difficult to sort all of the records of the various Joels in Wilkes Co., NC. The Joel of this family may have gone to Burke Co. as he and his family are reported to have moved from there to Wayne Co.,KY about 1806. A Joel of the correct age appears in the 1800 and 1810 census of Burke Co. Joel was a carpenter and built the Wayne Co. courthouse in 1825. He died in Dec. 1826 leaving a will. Martha went to Randolph Co., MO where she died in 1829. They had six children.
